FIELD NOTES

Lessons from the Sands

What two weeks with Saharan nomads taught our team about silence and direction.

CROSSING THE HIGHLAND FJORDS

By Elena Rostova • Field Journal • 8 Min Read

The wind coming off the glacier carries no sound except the crack of floating black ice against the hull of the kayak. Here in the far northwest, the ocean feels less like water and more like liquid glass reflecting centuries of solitude.

"In the arctic silence, every paddle stroke sounds like a conversation with the landscape."

When planning an expedition of this nature, logistics are secondary to mindset. The body adapts to cold water within days, but the mind takes longer to shed the noise of constant digital connectivity.

Storytellers, Explorers & Environmental Custodians — dedicated to crafting journeys that matter.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

BEYOND THE ITINERARY

TravelPlaceShop was founded on a singular premise: that true travel should be a transformative encounter rather than a consumer transaction. We believe that the most meaningful journeys are those that challenge our perspectives, deepen our understanding of the world, and leave a positive impact on the places we visit.

We create journeys that respect local traditions, support native wilderness preservation, and challenge participants to step outside their comfort zones into memorable living adventures. Every itinerary is carefully crafted to balance discovery with responsibility, ensuring that our travelers return home not just with photographs, but with stories that have changed them.

Our commitment extends beyond the journey itself. We invest in the communities we visit, support conservation initiatives, and work to foster cross-cultural understanding. We believe that travel, done well, has the power to build bridges between cultures and create lasting positive change.

OUR STORY

FOUNDED IN 2026

TravelPlaceShop was born from a simple observation: the travel industry had become disconnected from the very essence of what makes travel meaningful. We saw a world of cookie-cutter itineraries, overcrowded tourist traps, and experiences that prioritized profit over purpose.

So we set out to create something different. We assembled a team of passionate explorers, award-winning photographers, seasoned expedition leaders, and cultural anthropologists who shared a common vision: to create travel experiences that genuinely transform.

Today, TravelPlaceShop is a global community of curious travelers, local experts, and environmental advocates working together to explore the world responsibly and share its wonders with others.

🌱

Sustaining places for future generations.

We believe in protecting the natural and cultural wonders we explore. Our partnerships with conservation organizations ensure that the places we love remain beautiful for generations to come.

🤗

Authentic connection over superficial tourism.

We prioritize depth over breadth. We'd rather help you understand a single valley deeply than rush through seven countries in a week. Connection matters.

📚

Knowledge is the key to meaningful travel.

We believe that the more we understand about a place—its history, its people, its challenges—the richer our experience becomes. We equip travelers with the knowledge they need.

How physically fit do I need to be for trekking expeditions? +

Each expedition carries a graded difficulty rating from 1 (Gentle) to 5 (Technical). Specific physical preparation guides are provided upon booking confirmation. We recommend a moderate fitness level for most treks, with specific training recommendations provided based on your chosen expedition. Our team offers personalized fitness guidance and can recommend training programs tailored to your selected difficulty level.

What is your solo traveler policy? +

We welcome solo travelers! You can choose to be paired with a traveler of the same gender for shared accommodations or select a private single room upgrade (subject to availability). Many of our guests travel solo, and our expeditions are designed to foster community and connection among all participants. Single supplements vary by tour and accommodation type.

What is the booking and deposit process? +

All expedition bookings require a 25% non-refundable deposit at the time of reservation. Full balance payments must be completed no later than 60 days prior to departure date. We accept all major credit cards, bank transfers, and payment plans for select expeditions. Our booking team will guide you through the entire process and send detailed confirmation documents.

What safety measures do you have in place? +

Safety is our top priority. All expeditions include comprehensive medical kits, satellite communication devices, and trained wilderness first responders. Our guides are certified in wilderness medicine and have extensive experience in remote environments. We also provide pre-departure safety briefings and 24/7 emergency support throughout your journey.

What's included in the expedition price? +

Each expedition includes accommodations, meals as specified in the itinerary, internal transportation, guided activities, equipment for specialized activities (like glacier hiking or camel trekking), and all entry fees and permits. International flights, travel insurance, personal expenses, and optional activities are not included unless otherwise stated in the tour details.

Can I customize my itinerary? +

Yes! Many of our expeditions offer customization options. Our team works with you to adjust duration, add specific experiences, or modify difficulty levels. We also offer private group departures for travelers who prefer a more personalized experience. Customization fees may apply and are subject to availability.

What about dietary restrictions? +

We accommodate most dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies. Please inform us at the time of booking so we can make appropriate arrangements.
